Festival fever ...
SINGERS, musicians and music lovers will descend on the town this weekend for the annual Beverley Festival.
The festival kicks off tonight and over the course of the weekend will see numerous acts and entertainers perform all over the town.
Headline acts this year include Paul Carrack, Barbara Dickson and Bellowhead.
There will also be a vast number of other performers in music, comedy, the spoken word and literature, and a huge programme of free children’s events throughout the weekend.
The Festival Village, which can be found alongside the main festival events at Beverley Leisure Complex, is host to a free Craft, Music and Food Fair over the weekend, comprising of a wide variety of crafts from around the world, musical instruments, jewellery, clothes, CD and food stalls.
The Village Green Stage, within the Festival Village, will give visitors the chance to view a range of artists who will give an idea of the kind of performers that can be seen over the weekend.
Away from the festival site there will be street performers in Beverley town centre on Saturday and Sunday.
Following a successful season, the Beverley Film Society is teaming up with the Beverley Festival for the first time this year.
The Society is inviting all members and non-members to join them over the weekend for several film showings at the Beverley Leisure Complex Club Room.
Films to be shown include Travelling for a Living, a 1965 documentary on the Waterson Family, to be shown on Saturday at 11.30am and on Sunday there is A Mighty Wind, a 2003 mockumentary about a folk music reunion concert, to be screened at noon. Over the festival weekend 40 young people in the form of Angels in Action will help organisers by forming a Green Team to promote recycling facilities available to festival goers.
