Assessing left ventricular systolic function in shock: evaluation of ...

IntroductionAssessing systolic function of left ventricle (LV) in a fast and reliable can be difficult for patients seriously ill. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and reliability, as well as the association between LV systolic parameters commonly used, using standard transthoracic echocardiography (TTE).

Methods: 50 patients in shock and mechanical ventilation were included.

TTE examinations were performed every day for a total of 7 days. The methods used to assess LV systolic function were estimated visually, ejection fraction "eyeball" (EBEF), the single plane Simpson's method, a mean atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPDm), septal imaging speed tissues (ADI) and time velocity integral of left ventricular outflow tract (VTI).

Results: EBEF, AVPDm, TDI, VTI and Simpson were obtained in 100%, 100%, 99%, 95% and 93% respectively of all possible tests.

Correlations between Simpson and EBEF r values shown for seven days from 0.79 to 0.

Simpson's correlations with the other LV parameters showed substantial variation over time with the poorest results seen for TDIs and AVPDm. The repeatability was best for VTI (interobserver coefficient of variation (CV) 4.8% and intraobserver CV 3.1%)

Articles 20VN | Calculate the Coefficient of Variation in Excel ...

MS Excel is a powerful tool to crunch the statistics. You may want to learn how to calculate the coefficient of variation, which is simply the standard deviation divided by the mean. Here's how:

1. First, to isolate a range of cells that have the CV you want to know. For this example, assume that the data that the CV you want to calculate is in cells A2: A20.

2. Calculate the standard deviation of these data, the formula for which in this case is: = STDEV (A2: A20). Place this formula in cell C1.

3.Now, calculate the mean (average) for the same range using this formula: = AVERAGE (A2: A20). Place this formula in cell C2.

4. For the coefficient of variation, type this formula in cell C3: = C1/C2.

Another of the most useful statistical functions that Excel can crunch is the variance. The value of the difference tells you, in fact, how the uniform of a sample of values (or a sample or entire population) is large. The formula for the variance expressed in text is as follows:

The sum of the difference between each value in the sample and the average of all values of the sample (squared) divided by one less than the size of the sample.

The good news is: you do not need to memorize this formula. Instead, Excel find out for you. Note: some people say they want to "calculate the coefficient of variation" in Excel. In reality, what they say is they want to calculate the variance in Excel.

There are currently four different functions in Excel used to calculate the variance. The formula you should choose depends on:

a.If the data you have access to a sample or entire population is

b. if you want Excel to include all logical values (true / false values) and any text can be interpreted as a value that is within the range that you specify

Here's how to choose which of the four functions for calculating the variance in Excel:

1. Use = VAR () when you base your calculation on a sample and you want Excel to ignore logical (TRUE / FALSE) values and text.

2.Use = VARA () when you base your calculation on a sample and you want Excel to treat logical values as TRUE = 1, false = 0, and interpret the text values as numbers. Note: This formula will cause an error if the range of cells you select contains text that can not be interpreted as a number.

3. Use = VARP () when you base your calculation on the entire population and you want Excel to ignore logical (TRUE / FALSE) values and text.
