Duo treks agross US for Hot Rod Power Tour

Chuck Casey and Rett Vincent traveled 6,500 miles in Rett's 2006 Shelby Mustang, at top, for the Hot Rod Power Tour featuring 3,500 hot rod enthusiasts. The tour began in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and concluded in Detroit, Michigan. Some of the stops included Kennedy Space Center and Indianapolis Speedway, where Chuck and Rett were able to take a lap around the track and pose for the picture above.       After a successful Fiesta Day, Canyon Lake Car Club members Chuck Casey and Rett Vincent departed on May 29 for a trek around the USA for the Hot Rod Power Tour (HRPT). The tour began in Cocoa Beach, Florida on June 3 and ended seven cities and seven days later in Detroit, Michigan. About 3,500 hot rods participated in the mobile car show.
      In total, Chuck and Casey hit 20 states in 15 days, traveling 6,500 miles. Chuck chronicled the trip in a blog containing pictures and details. The blog can be accessed at canyonlakecarclub.com by selecting the link “Hot Rod Power Tour.”
      Chuck owns a Falcon, which they chose not to take, as it is not a long hauler. They chose instead to take Rett’s 2006 Shelby Mustang GT-H. During the first leg of their trip on Sunday, they covered 611 miles from San Diego to Lordsburg, New Mexico. Chuck says they hit rain all the way to the Arizona border, followed by 45 miles of sandstorm. The remainder of the first leg included a stop in Casa Grande and a detour to Tombstone.
      On Memorial Day, they drove from Lordsburg, New Mexico, through El Paso, Texas, over the Rio Grande, and stopped for the night in Saquin, about 30 miles outside of the “other” Canyon Lake in Texas. That day Chuck noted, “There were three basic things we saw: rocks, bushes and dirt.”
      • During the third day of their journey to Gulfport, Mississippi, there were renewed signs of civilization when they encountered Houston billboards along the freeway. The scenery also turned from brown and flat to green and rolling. They stopped in Jacinto Port, which Chuck has visited many times for his work, before continuing on to Louisiana.
      Chuck says those who go to the Deep South should visit Bourbon St. – at least for a few hours.
