SUBMITTED PHOTO133rd Singing Convention to begin July 22The 133rd annual session of the Faulkner County Singing Convention will begin at 7 p.m. July 22 at Centerville United Methodist Church. It will convene again at 10 a.m. July 23, break for a meal at noon, and continue at 1 p.m. As always, the public is invited and encouraged to attend this time-honored event.Early convention minutes are probably lost, but a few interesting bits have been passed down. A constitution was adopted July 21, 1887, and it (or its revisions) provided that “the Secretary shall be allowed $1.50 for his services.” It also provided that “this Convention shall be opened and closed by prayer.” And, it contained the following: “the object of this Convention is to harmonize vocal music.” These statements are in the minutes of the “Fifty-Fourth Annual Session held with Enola Class, July 22, 23, 24, 1932.”Names in these 1932 minutes would make up a Who’s Who of community leaders. The singing classes represented included Antioch, Bailey Chapel, Beckett Mountain, Blackfork, Brannon, Cadron Valley, Centerville, Cypress Valley, Enders, Greenbrier, Holland, Marcus Hill, Mount Carmel, Mount Olive, Mount Vernon, Naylor, Needs Creek, New Liberty-Beryl, Pleasant Valley, Springhill and Vilonia, Centerville UMC, site of the 133rd Convention, is some eight miles northeast of Greenbrier near Woolly Hollow State Park. It has a rich heritage in its own right. It has a long association with Faulkner County singing. And, it welcomes all conventioneers along with the officials, Raymond Bush, president; Shelby Sawrie, vice president; Margie Fulmer. Secretary-Treasurer; Dean Patton, Chaplain; and Weldon Ingram, Sgt. at Arms. The McKameys to be in concert at Faith AssemblyFaith Assembly of God Church will host The McKameys at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Cheeky Wipes! – Review » clothnappy.info
3/5
Terry towelling has long been held in high regard as an absorbent product for making flannels, towels, flat nappies and the like. Therefore, it’s unsurprising to find wipes in this material. However, the pile could have been thicker to allow for more sponginess, and as it stands bamboo or soy terry would have been ten times more absorbent.
Unfortunately, the wipes catch colours from nappies/clothes when being washed together really easily and come out in some rather odd shades. They also stain very easily. With the pile being so short, they crisp up and form handy frisbees if, like me, you live in a hard water area…for this reason, I’ve taken to using them only for scrubby face jobs and not delicate bottom work!
