Fly Fishing Casting
Bass fly fishing rare in tournaments
Fly fishing for bass is not unusual, nor are fly fishing contests. However, fly fishers going head to head with conventional bass fishers in a tournament setting doesn't often occur because most bass tournaments do not permit fly fishing. I can appreciate a tournament where each individual is competing alone even though there are two fishers to a boat. Team tournaments or contest with a sole fisher per boat/watercraft are different situations. I think such rules are overly restrictive in those cases. So the FMO was a treat, as it allowed us to fish competitively with fly rods against conventional-gear fishers. The only restrictions were no bait, no trolling with a gas-powered motor and compliance with Colorado fishing regulations. Fishing all night is challenging no matter what tackle you fish. The time involved is far longer than the 12 hours on the water. Things actually get started around 4 p.m. with the check-in, boat inspection, launching the boat, on the water prelaunch safety meeting and the live well inspection. All boats then are required to be checked in by 7 a.m., after which the weigh-in and awards ceremony takes another two hours. Total, it's more than a 16-hour event, 12 hours of which are spent on your feet fishing practically non-stop. By the time morning rolled around, my legs were letting me know in no uncertain terms that I needed to do some serious sitting.Fly Fishing Casting - News

This was to take place on the Wye, but due to the overnight rain the river was rather coloured and running a little high ( - but at least the Wye regulars were happy) so we had to make do with the adjacent field. This was not really a problem as the day was intended to focus on casting anyway. So I spent the day learning about Piles, Wiggles, Mending (lots of this), curves, etc. Now if I have just lost you, and you fish on rivers, then you really should have been there today - Frank Williams: Dry Fly Fishing.
