E3 News: Nintendo touts Zelda's 25th Anniversary, Wii U, 3DS games & Super ...

While the Wii U was the big news for Nintendo at E3, that wasn’t all that was on display.  Nintendo had a bunch of new 3DS games to show off. And, Nintendo has to outline its plans for celebrating Zelda’s 25th Anniversary.

While the 25th Anniversary of Zelda quietly came and went, Nintendo wasn’t ignoring it.  Instead, they were gearing up for a big reveal of celebratory events.  First off, a symphony concert tour where Zelda music will be played would begin in the fall. The tour would go through out all major regions of the world.

Next, Nintendo announced that Zelda: Link’s Awakening would be the first Game Boy Color game available on the 3DS Virtual Console, available by the end of the day on June 7. 

That wasn’t the only Zelda game being made available for download on handhelds.  Nintendo announced that Zelda: Four Swords would be re-released on DSi Ware as a free download in September.  This means that owners of DSi, DSi XL, and 3DS will be able to play the first multiplayer centric Zelda game for absolutely free. 

In regards to the upcoming Wii exclusive Zelda: Skyward Sword, a special edition gold Wii Remote Plus (Wii Motion Plus Built-in).  This controller will not be bundled in with the game, but sold separate. There was no Zelda Skyward Sword on-stage presentation this time around.  In order to avoid any awkward glitches, only lip service was given with a statement of the game being available by holiday 2011.

Lastly, two music collections would be provided to Zelda fans.  Those who have a Club Nintendo account will receive the Ocarina of Time soundtrack when they register Ocarina of Time 3D on their account.  Also, a CD with the symphony performances of specific Zelda tracks will be released later in the year.  Nintendo noted that they had some more announcements to make on Zelda Anniversary celebration coming later in the year.

Moving on, Nintendo had a plethora of 3DS games to unveil.  The new Super Mario 3DS, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Star Fox 64 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Mario Kart 3D were all shown off with more details.

Super Mario 3DS demonstrated the return of many Super Mario Bros. 3 features.  The tanooki suit and koopalings sky-ship stages headlined, with other stage gimmicks appearing as well.  The game will use new types of perspectives and camera angles to deliver new stage types for players to experience.
